Almitra L. Berry, Ed.D. is a nationally recognized speaker, author, and consultant on the topic of culturally and linguistically diverse learners in America’s K12 education system. Dr. Berry’s research focuses on equity and academic achievement for marginalized learners – particularly in majority-of-color, low-wealth, large, urban school districts. During her extensive career, Dr. Berry has worked with leaders and systems throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. She has presented at scores of national and international conferences on equity, leadership, curriculum reform, and meeting the needs of historically underserved and disenfranchised learners. She calls upon educators and educational leaders to evaluate policy, curriculum, instruction, supervision, and professional learning with a lens focused on equity. Dr. Berry is a graduate of the University of California, Davis holding a B.A. in political science/public administration, an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership with a specialization in curriculum and instruction. She is also host of the podcast Educational Equity Emancipation and author of the book Effecting Change for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners, as well as numerous other articles addressing educational equity.

Angelique Thompson is a respected reading and kindergarten specialist with extensive teaching experience in the Toronto District School Board. She currently serves as an early reading coach, collaborating with multiple schools. Ms. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Psychology from York University. She has been involved in curriculum writing and editing for the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. Notably, she received the Elementary Teachers of Toronto Excellence in Teaching Equity Award in 2009 and The Toronto District School Board's Celebrating Excellence in the TDSB Award for Program/Project Excellence in 2010. Carrie Eicher is a student-centered educational leader who is committed to the validation and affirmation of all students and families. Ms. Eicher started her career in education as a lower elementary teacher, then an instructional coach, the Dean of Academics and Instruction, and finally an assistant principal. After a brief hiatus where she joined TCM’s professional learning team as an academic officer, Ms. Eicher has returned to her work with Dr. Sharroky Hollie and the Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CCRTL) as a consultant and coach. Working in collaboration with CCRTL, Ms. Eicher partners with educational leaders and teachers to support implementation and teacher growth in the area of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching. Ms. Eicher received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education as well as an Elementary teaching license for grades K–6 in all subjects from Minnesota State University. She then earned her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Integrating the Arts into the Curriculum, from Lesley University. Ms. Eicher has also earned an Educational Administration Certification and Principal Licensure for grades K–12 from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Cathy Collier has been an educator for more than 30 years, with a variety of roles, most notedly as a kindergarten teacher and reading specialist for K-2 Title 1 and non-Title 1 schools with Chesapeake Public Schools. In the role of reading specialist, Cathy was responsible for data collection, interventions, reporting, and professional development throughout her school site and her district where she also worked with curriculum development. Cathy’s passion is curriculum and learning practices within the early childhood classroom and she has channeled that passion into her new Shell Education professional resource, The Road to Independent Reading and Writing. Cathy has spoken at numerous state and national conferences and is a member of several leading literacy associations, including the Virginia State Literacy Association for the last 20 years where she served as Conference Chair/Vice-President, and President, and being elected to the International Literacy Association Board of Directors in 2015 where she served for three years, and was a member of the Global Literacy Committee which focused on literacy opportunities for children worldwide. Cathy has received numerous accolades for her work, most recently as a Darden Fellow at Old Dominion University (her alma mater) for her contributions to literacy.

Dr. Chase Young is a professor in the School of Teaching and Learning at Sam Houston State University and former elementary school teacher and literacy coach. His research primarily aims to develop fluent readers, support struggling readers, and integrate art into the science of teaching reading. Chase teaches a variety of literacy education courses, such as Identification and Correction of Reading Difficulties; Analysis, Interpretation, and Dissemination of Literacy Assessment; and Literacy Response to Intervention. He has presented to and worked with teachers around the world, and he loves it. Dr. Young received his master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. He then went on to attend the University of North Texas where he earned his Ph.D. in Reading Education with a dissertation titled “Student Facilitation and Predictors of Engagement in Peer-Led Literature Circle Discussions.

Prior to holding this position, Chris served as a math coach for Temecula Valley Unified School District in California. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of The Math Projects Journal where he writes lessons for secondary math teachers and provides professional development. Chris received his bachelor’s in computer science from the University of Southern California. He earned his teaching credential in mathematics from National University and his master’s in education from United States International University. He has received several awards during his career, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Outstanding Teacher Award for Riverside County in 2000. Donnie specializes in using technology to promote student inquiry, learning, and engagement, and has been teaching in Kentucky since 2007. Over the past 17 years in education, these interests have given him the unique chance to represent Kentucky and his students around the world. He is the Educational Ambassador for the Peabody Award winning company, GZMShows. He was the recipient of a National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship to Antarctica, and he also represents Kentucky on the inaugural National Geographic Teacher Advisory Council. He is the North American lead for the Google Earth Education Experts Network, and he was the first teacher in Kentucky to become both a Google Certified Innovator and a Google Certified Trainer. In addition, he was a Featured Voice for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference in 2024. Donnie’s recent work in AI and Edu has gained widespread attention, earning him multiple appearances on Good Morning America, the Associated Press, and PBS. His book, 50 Strategies for Using AI in the Classroom, published by Shell Education, is written for educators looking for practical classroom approaches to using AI to revolutionize their teaching methods and enrich their students’ learning experiences. Donnie graduated from Asbury College and earned his master’s degree from Auburn University at Montgomery. While he has delivered keynotes and presentations to schools in 33 states and 5 continents, his heart remains in the Bluegrass, where he consistently leads professional development sessions for school districts across the state. Dr. Eugenia Mora-Flores is the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC) where she is responsible for oversight and coordination of the teacher education degree programs. Additionally, Dr. Mora-Flores is a Professor of Clinical Education with Distinction and teaches courses on first and second language acquisition, social critical analysis, and literacy development for elementary and secondary students. Her research interests include studies on effective practices in developing the language and literacy skills of multilingual learners in grades Pre-K–12. Over the course of her 25 plus years as an educator, Dr. Mora-Flores has become a well-known and well-respected expert in the field of multilingual learner academic support. This can be seen through her many honors including being named MAT Professor of the Year in 2016 and 2018 (a title awarded by the students of USC) as well as USC’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2018. Her impact in education was recognized through the 2018 Community Achievement Award which recognizes professors who have gone above and beyond for their students and who have made meaningful contributions to the educations of students of color and/or who identify as LGBTQ. Dr. Mora-Flores has written numerous books in the area of literacy and academic language development (ALD) for English learners, including the popular Shell Education resources Connecting Content and Language for English Language Learners and Integrated English Language Development: Supporting English Learners Across the Curriculum. She has also co-authored Shell Education’s Science for English Language Learners: Developing Academic Language through Inquiry-Based Instruction, Teaching and Supporting English Learners: A Guide to Welcoming and Engaging Newcomers, and four publications on Strategies for Connecting Content and Language for English Language Learners across the curriculum. In addition, Dr. Mora-Flores is a contributing author to TCM’s Language Power series, 1st and 2nd editions, which focuses on the four language domains to accelerate students’ English language proficiency and build their confidence. Dr. Mora-Flores received her Master of Arts in Education with a concentration on Curriculum and Instruction from Columbia University in New York. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Working as an educator for almost 20 years, Hillary Wolfe is currently the Executive Director of College, Career, and Economic Development for Fontana Unified School District in southern California. In this position, she manages Career Technical Education curriculum and instruction; writes and manages state and federal grants; and builds and maintains strategic partnerships with local colleges, community organizations, and businesses. Prior to this position, Hillary has been a director of curriculum and instruction, a coordinator of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, a coordinator of intervention and academic supports/MTSS, as well as an ELA instructional coach. As an educator, her expertise lies in the areas of career technical education, literacy, intervention, MTSS, and school improvement. In addition to her roles within the school community, Hillary has served as an academic officer and current education consultant for TCM, where she provides professional development and training on TCM curriculum materials and Shell Education professional resources. She is the co-author of the Shell Education publication, What the Science of Reading Says about Writing (2022), contributing author to What the Science of Reading Says about Word Recognition and editor for many other Shell Education professional resources. Hillary earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from UCLA, single and multiple subject teaching credentials from Azusa Pacific University, and administrative credentials from both California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Tier 1) and California State University, Fullerton (Tier 2).

She is a former middle-school teacher, principal, instructional coach, and teacher residency director who partnered with Latino students and families in northeast Los Angeles for over 16 years. She holds an Ed. D. from the University of Southern California in Urban Educational Leadership with a focus on Teacher Education in Multicultural Societies. Jamey Acosta is an experienced educator with a passion for supporting multilingual learners. Currently, she serves as the English Learner Teacher on Special Assignment (EL TOSA) and EL Coordinator for the Upland Unified School District. In her leadership role, Ms. Acosta develops and implements systems to support multilingual learners, including those in the Dual Language Immersion Academy; leads district-wide efforts to improve ELD implementation, the reclassification process, and professional learning for staff; plans and delivers professional development for teachers (TK-12) on effective instructional practices for multilingual learners; and provides guidance at the district and school site levels for English Learner programs and services. Prior to her current leadership position, Ms. Acosta served as a Reading Specialist at Upland Elementary School, where she nurtured a love of literacy in her students. She also brings valuable experience as an educational consultant, providing training to educators nationwide. Jamey Acosta's strong educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a Literacy Option and a California Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She further bolstered her expertise with a Master of Science in Education (Literacy and Reading) and an added Reading Specialist Credential. Regardless of the role, Ms. Acosta has consistently maintained her focus on being an advocate for all students.

Dr. Jeanette Long comes to Teacher Created Materials via The School District of Osceola County in Central Florida. With 18 years as a teacher, 6 years as a school administrator, and 2 years as a district administrator, she now joins the TCM family as an academic officer. Drawing from her background as an English language learner—as well as her diverse experience across elementary, middle, high school, and post-secondary levels—Dr. Long gained insights into effective teaching approaches and learning strategies for all students. In her previous role as the coordinator for the Multicultural Education Department, Dr. Long actively contributed to various educational initiatives and innovative projects focused on multilinguals in her district. This commitment ensures that effective education is inclusive for all students. In addition to being an education consultant for TCM, Dr. Walker is co-author of the Shell Education professional resource, Get the Picture: Visual Literacy in Content-Area Instruction and author of multiple educational publications. Prior to working at the collegiate level, Dr. Walker was a middle school language arts teacher for six years in the Hawthorne School District and Bakersfield City School District. At that time, she was the title 1 coordinator and taught both regular and GATE courses in language arts. She was a mentor teacher in the Hawthorne School District and provided new teacher support and content area literacy instruction for K–8 teachers. Dr. Walker boasts a comprehensive academic background, having successfully achieved a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Science in Education, and a distinguished Doctorate in Education. Dr. Stephanie Dewing is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. In this role, Dr. Dewing supports teacher candidates’ knowledge of language and literacy development across all grade levels and content areas through her “Integrated Language Development Across the Curriculum” course and subsequent guided practice (student teaching). In addition to her professorship, Dr. Dewing is the chair of USC’s Bilingual Authorization Advisory Board and an active member of the MAT and TESOL governance committees. After beginning her career teaching social studies and English at a bilingual school in Quito, Ecuador, Dr. Dewing transitioned into higher education at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs by developing their Masters of TESOL program and by teaching a variety of courses to both pre-service and in-service teachers in the TESOL program. In addition to her teaching credential in Spanish (K-12) and Linguistically Diverse Education (K-12), Dr. Dewing has both a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching of Spanish and a Master of Arts in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, as well as a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Innovation from the University of Colorado, Denver. Dr. Timothy Rasinski is a professor emeritus of literary education at Kent State University and was previously director of its award-winning reading clinic. Dr. Rasinski is the author of numerous best-selling books, articles, and curriculum programs on literacy education and has co-authored many resources for Shell Education including, but not limited to, Greek & Latin Roots: Keys to Building Vocabulary, Starting with Prefixes and Suffixes, Practice with Prefixes, Vocabulary Ladders: Understanding Word Nuances series, Getting to the Roots of Content-Area Vocabulary series, Idioms and Other English Expressions series, Close Reading with Paired Texts series, Rhymes for the Times: Literacy Strategies through Social Studies, as well as TCM’s curriculum resource Building Vocabulary series. Dr. Rasinski is a frequent, well-known presenter nationwide and in 2021 and 2023 was named one of the top 2% most-citied scientists in the world. His scholarly interests include reading fluency, word study, reading in the elementary and middle grades, and readers who struggle. Dr. Rasinski served a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the International Reading Association and was co-editor of The Reading Teacher, the world’s most widely read journal of literacy education. He has also served as co-editor of the Journal of Literacy Research. Dr. Rasinski is a former president of the College Reading Association and has won the A. B. Herr and Laureate Awards from the College Reading Association for his scholarly contributions to literacy education. In 2010, Dr. Rasinski was elected to the International Reading Hall of Fame, and in 2019 Dr. Rasinski was recipient of the International Literacy Association’s highest honor—the William S. Gray Citation of Merit—for his contributions to the field of literacy.
